Who needs Academic SELT

Academic SELT is the Secure English Language Test from LanguageCert: an exam accepted by the UK’s Home Office for all types of visas, and by universities for admission. It is taken in person at a secure centre, so the result will not raise doubts either with a visa officer or an admissions committee.

  • UK Student visaTo study in the UK, you need to prove your English level with a test from the SELT list. Academic SELT is on this list, so one certificate meets both the university’s requirement and the visa centre’s requirement.
  • One exam for all levelsThe exam is multi-level: you do not choose “B2” or “C1” in advance; you receive the level you demonstrate — from B1 to C2. This is useful when you are not sure which level to aim for.
  • Results within 5 working daysLanguageCert publishes official results within 5 working days after the exam. This is significantly faster for visa deadlines than most other tests.
  • Two parts — on the same day or separatelyYou can take the written component (listening, reading and writing) and the speaking component on the same day or on separate dates within 14 days. This allows you to prepare for speaking separately, without unnecessary stress.
