AUDIENCE

Who our Ukrainian programmes are for

Our Ukrainian language department specialises in teaching adult foreign nationals who live in Ukraine or work with Ukrainian partners.

Diplomats and mission staff

Embassy, international organisation and humanitarian foundation staff who need the language for official communication, working with documents and everyday life with confidence in Kyiv.

Expats and business teams

Foreign managers, consultants and company employees who work with Ukrainian colleagues, hold meetings and want to understand the local business and cultural context.

International families and partners

Foreign nationals who have started families with Ukrainians or moved to Ukraine. We help them quickly overcome the language barrier when communicating with family, neighbours and in everyday city life.

Volunteers and journalists

Representatives of international media and volunteer initiatives who need a quick understanding of spoken language, the ability to follow the news and direct contact with people on the ground.

METHODOLOGY

How we teach: the direct method without translation

After many years of working with international students, we adapted International House’s international communicative standards for teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language. The guiding principle is total immersion.

NO INTERMEDIARY

Learning exclusively in Ukrainian from the first lesson

We do not use an intermediary language in lessons, even for complete beginners with no prior knowledge. Instead of mechanical translation, the teacher uses visual aids, objects, contextual situations, facial expressions and language models. This helps students learn to think in Ukrainian from the start, rather than forming phrases in their head through translation.

PRACTICE

Live communication instead of memorising tables

Grammar forms and cases are acquired naturally through practical speaking tasks. Each lesson models a real-life situation: ordering in a restaurant, a dialogue at an airport or bank, discussing the news or holding a work meeting. You master structures that you can immediately use in practice that same day.

HOW TO GET STARTED

A simple way to learn Ukrainian

We make sure the organisational process is easy and clear. From your enquiry to your first dialogue in Ukrainian, there are just three steps.

  1. 1

    1. Enquiry and consultation

Leave your contact details in the form or call us. An academic coordinator will contact you in your preferred language (Ukrainian or English) to discuss your goals, preferred timetable and format.

  2. 2

    2. Language level assessment

If you already have some basic knowledge, we will conduct a short interview to determine your exact level according to the CEFR scale (A1–C1). For those learning the language for the first time, we will immediately create a programme starting with the alphabet and pronunciation.

  3. 3

    3. Starting your lessons

We agree on a timetable, assign a teacher and provide learning materials. You start speaking Ukrainian in your very first introductory lesson.
