IHCYLT – International House Certificate for Younger Learners

Entry requirements

The International House Certificate in teaching Younger Learners and Teenagers (IH CYLT) is a teacher training course (50 hours) designed to prepare Course Participants (CPs) to teach English as a foreign or an additional language (EFL/EAL) to children between 6 and 16 years old.
The course is produced and standardized by International House World Organization (IHWO) and moderated and assessed by both the IHWO Assessment Unit and Cambridge English Language Assessment.

IHCYLT Course in 2020:

  • Part-time:

15.01.2021 – 10.04.2021
Fri, Sat

14.06.2021 – 30.06.2021

Fee: 11 750 UAH
Certificate price (98 GBP) is not included.

Applicants must:

  • be 18 years or older and be educated to university entrance level;
  • be experienced YL teachers who would like further training, or qualified language teachers who need training in Young Learner education;
  • have a minimum English language level of C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. All of the sessions are presented in English and the written assignments must be written in English;
  • display an interest in teaching YLs and be cleared by the local police officials in agreement with the laws of the country in which the course is taking place;
  • successfully complete the application form and task sheet.

Rather than comparing adult learners to YLs the new IH CYLT looks at how teachers can most efficiently use their classroom time to help YLs acquire English. Therefore, the course is recommended for IHCTL / CELTA qualified teachers as well as teachers with certificates equivalent to IHCTL / CELTA.
Centres may, at their discretion, accept applicants who do not have the qualifications stated above if screening indicates that they would be likely to complete the course successfully.

The course was fantastic, I didn’t even think it would be that much fun! Even though those were two very hard weeks, we really enjoyed them. If you’re reading this message and still wondering if you need the course, if you’re still on the fence, hop off it and start getting the maximum out of your life. The two weeks will be an awesome beginning whichwill be the beginning of future hard-working days and moments of glory! (Igor, Cherkasy)

I would like to thank IH for running the IHCYLT. The course opened my eyes and gave me a chance to improve my teaching with young learners. During the course, I gained a lot and experience, and I learned different approaches during my TPs. Personal thanks to our tutors Olena Lysytsia and Victoriia Shelest for their dedication and support during these “easy” two weeks:). They made the course achievable and memorable! Thank you.
