8

Christopher Walker

Topic: Innovation in English language teaching
For: Post-CELTA teachers and academic managers
Session abstract: The ELT industry has lasted for as long as English has been spoken around the world, and will continue to last long into the future - provided there is innovation in the field. This session will present some thoughts about innovation in ELT, from the perspectives of teachers and academic managers alike, and will offer some suggestions for new things worth trying in your own school or classroom.
9

Rob Howard

Topic: That’s what I said, but not what I meant
For: Teachers of Business English and intercultural communication
Session abstract: Competency in intercultural communication amongst international companies, groups and organizations has been challenging as more and more diverse teams form. This talk will look at some of the basic misunderstandings that have taken place within different groups of trained, expert educators due to varying cultural backgrounds and offer up methods to avoid potentially serious errors or miscommunications through examination of our own cultural voicing.
10

Chris Richards

Topic: Exploiting every opportunity for learning
For: Post-CELTA (General / Exam)
Session abstract: We know what’s necessary for our lesson to work. But is what’s necessary also sufficient for effective learning? Students spend limited time in lessons and so we need to take advantage of every minute. This session looks at how we can establish routines that exploit every possible learning moment and suggests how we can extend activities to maximise their impact.
11

Kris Kirby

Topic: Sorry… what do we do now?’—Giving clear instructions in class
For: Teachers of teenagers and adults, post-CELTA and above
Session abstract: As teachers, one of the most important things we do every lesson is give our students instructions. However, in language classes, so often these directions can be less effective than we would hope, leading to extra time needed to reformulate and re-explain. In this session we will identify a step-by-step process to ensure classroom directions are as effective as possible.
12

Yuliia Danylenko

Topic: From trainee to trainer: what changes and what doesn’t?
For: Post-CELTA / Post-DELTA (Teacher Development)
Session abstract: This session explores the transition from teacher to trainer, including what carries over and what requires rethinking. We’ll look at key challenges like giving feedback, modelling effectively, and managing role shift - offering practical insights for anyone stepping into or considering a training role.

13

Katja Preston

Topic: Horses for courses – a trot through different types of online professional development course
For: Post-Celta teachers
14

Alona Lytovchenko

Topic: Teaching beginners: tools that work
For: Pre-CELTA and post-CELTA teachers
